Did the IPCC get anything right in its environment report?

Now IPCC hurricane data is questioned
February 15, 2010 by Andrew Orlowski

More trouble looms for the IPCC. The body may need to revise statements made in its Fourth Assessment Report on hurricanes and global warming. A statistical analysis of the raw data shows that the claims that global hurricane activity has increased cannot be supported.

Lake Erie Frozen over; First Time in 14 Years
February 17, 2010 by Accuweather.com

Following a cold snap in the Northeast, Lake Erie’s surface is virtually frozen over for the first time in about 14 years.

The ice ranges in thickness between paper thin along the northern shore and several inches along the southern shore, where many people are ice skating.

GoErie.com reports that the lake hasn’t completely frozen since the winter of 1995-1996.

Cold kills coral; 1st time since ’70s

Cold kills coral; 1st time since ’70s
January 27, 2010 by TIMOTHY O’HARA

Coral bleaching is a condition often associated with the summer doldrums, but extreme cold weather, like what the Florida Keys experienced earlier this month, also can cause coral to bleach and die.

This month’s cold snap has the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and other coral conservation groups conducting a survey to determine the extent of the damage. During the next two weeks, teams of scientific divers from federal and state agencies and nongovernmental and academic organizations will be surveying coral colonies from the Dry Tortugas through Martin County to assess coral reef health.

Temperatures in some Keys nearshore waters dropped to 52 degrees for several days — well below average for this time of year — with fatal results for some corals.

Record cold forecast for Copenhagen

Record cold forecast for Copenhagen
December 13, 2009 by Don Surber

The Weather Underground people are forecasting low temperatures of 21°, 17° and 22° in Copenhagen, respectively, for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The record lows for those dates are 24°, 19° and 19°.

Now it could be that the weather history that Weather Underground uses does not go back that far.

But then again, the Global Warming crowd ignores data that shows the Middle Ages were much warmer than today.

The normal temperature range for Copenhagen in January is 29° to 36°.

Other forecasts say it will be only slightly colder, no record.

UPDATE: The Weather Underground updated its forecast and upped its lows to above the record.

Orlando officially dropped to 62 degrees, which is just one degree shy of the record, and Melbourne bottomed out at 65 degrees under some of those heat-trapping high clouds.
